For simpler web applications – bundling know-how in Brazil

If Web 2.0 has changed one thing, it’s the way we communicate with each other digitally. Today’s internet applications have to reflect the lifestyle of the “Google generation”. Yet traditional websites, which tend to use the browser as a shop window and little else, fail to meet this requirement. Today, there is demand for intuitively usable applications with lots of opportunities for interaction. Such a Rich Internet Application (RIA) ultimately has to combine a desktop application’s richness of functions with the simplicity of Web 2.0. The GFT Group’s RIA team of experts in Brazil has taken up this challenge.

Multi-media features, intuitive use and easy distribution: This is how web applications should be. However, the large number of first-generation, internet-based offerings are out of date with the 2.0-revolution. That is why there are concepts and tools that can modernise these older applications. One of the best-known products – and according to GFT developers one of the strongest – is Google Web Toolkit (GWT). The RIA team of experts specialises in developing 2.0-adequate Rich Internet Applications with the help of Google Web Toolkit.

There are four reasons for deciding on Google Web Toolkit: First, it improves the user experience as we know it from 2.0. Second, the tool is based on its producer’s open source policy and will be extended for new platforms like Android. Third, it builds the bridge to new mobile applications. And fourth, GWT reduces the development effort by up to 30 percent. “GWT is much more than just a framework,” says Constantino Cronemberger, Senior Engineer at GFT. “It increases the developer’s productivity enormously, and for the customer, it causes a quantum leap in his Internet applications.”

Unlike other Java toolkits, GWT was “born” in the Web 2.0 age of cooperation and networking. That makes it the ideal foundation for web applications. A vibrant ecosystem has already established itself in the internet community, in which tools, widget sets, etc. are created as GWT additions that facilitate the work on big development projects.

GFT’s team of experts brings together the know-how in order to transfer existing desktop applications into the 2.0 world. Users can experience new forms of collaboration, while their company becomes more agile and dynamic.
