The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service. Its mission is to support EU policies with independent evidence throughout the whole policy cycle. Detailed description of the profiles

Nature of the tasks

  • Design, implementation and maintenance of database layer of multi-tiers applications

  • Data analysis, data modelling

  • Development and maintenance of database stored procedures

  • Database configuration and optimization

  • Database integration with applications

  • Execution of database test programs

  • Definition and integration of database components

  • Physical database design

  • Writing of technical documentation

  • Support with deployment and configuration of database systems

  • Participation in meetings with project teams


Knowledge and skills

  • In-depth knowledge of relational database systems

  • In depth knowledge of SQL

  • Good knowledge of modelling database tools

  • Good knowledge of stored procedure languages (e.g. PL/SQL)

  • Good knowledge of application development environments

  • Knowledge of the design and development of web and multi-tier web applications

  • Ability to cope with fast changing technologies used in application developments

  • Ability to participate in multi-lingual meetings, ease of communication

  • Capability of integration in an international/multicultural environment, rapid self-starting capability and experience in working in team.

  • Experience with programming languages

  • Experience with DB modelling tools

  • Experience in web application development

  • Professional experience in RDBMS (e.g. Oracle, MySQL), DB languages (e.g. SQL, PL/SQL) and modelling tools

  • Knowledge of non-relational databases is a plus (e.g. MongoDB)
