GFT opens new software development centre in Spain

150 new jobs for Spanish IT specialists

Stuttgart, 7 February 2012 – The GFT Group today expanded its global network of experts with the opening of a development centre in the Catalan town of Lleida, Spain. The new facility of the Stuttgart-based IT company expects to create up to 150 new jobs over the next three years. “Spanish IT specialists play an important role in our global development strategy,” said GFT Executive Board member Marika Lulay at the opening ceremony and added: “In Lleida we are now strengthening our local investment.” The company can utilise the existing infrastructure and avoid any possible language barriers.

It is commonly known that for highly skilled staff it is extremely difficult to find suitable jobs in Spain at present, especially in the IT sector. An increasing number are therefore going abroad, for example to Germany and GFT. The IT service provider has been able to offer attractive career prospects to numerous applicants from South-West Europe over the past few years. GFT is now adding a further important element in its commitment to Spanish IT experts. “With the opening of the new GFT development centre in Lleida, we are delighted that we can help the employment situation directly here in Spain. We can also utilise the excellent conditions which are already available here,” states Lulay.

Carlos Eres, Managing Director of GFT in Spain, explains: “There is a large number of professionally trained software experts in the region around Lleida. Our connection to the local Science and Technology Park gives direct access to these young experts.” Cooperation is also planned with the University in Lleida, for example sharing a Usability Lab for testing the user-friendliness of developed software solutions.

The new development centre adds a valuable component to GFT’s group-wide portfolio of products and services. Eres: “With our facility in Lleida, we can support virtually every project that involves a significant proportion of software programming. Our processes and tools enable us to industrialise software production to a certain extent – while still guaranteeing top quality, just-in-time delivery and attractive conditions.”

After Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Zaragoza, Lleida is now GFT’s fifth facility in Spain.
